About us
The word "rehabilitation" comes from the Latin words "Re" and "habilis". It means that a person who has been deprived of honor and rights and is no longer able to live a normal life regains the right to live a normal life.
Later, it came to represent the recovery of functions that have deteriorated due to illness, injury, or age, and to support a return to daily life or sports activities.
In the Medical School Department of Health Sciences, Major in Rehabilitation Science, you can take advantage of being a comprehensive university and learn broadly and deeply about "Team Approach to Health Care" across disciplines.
The main campus is located next to "Nagoya City University Mirai Kousei Hospital" in Meito Ward, Nagoya City. Students also study at the Sakurayama Campus, where Nagoya City University Hospital is located, and the Takiko Campus, where they study general education.

Course of Physical Therapy
In this course, you can also learn about advanced rehabilitation using robots and brain waves, as well as sports rehabilitation.
Physical therapists help people with physical illnesses or disabilities recover their basic movement abilities, such as getting up, standing, walking, and running.
In undergraduate classes, we collaborate with the affiliated hospitals to conduct a variety of exercises and practical training from the acute stage to the convalescent stage. We conduct a wide range of research to contribute to the advancement of medical care, from basic research targeting cells and animals to clinical research targeting patients.

Research achievement
By promoting cross-disciplinary education and research, we will develop human resources with a perspective on future-oriented medical care that can be practiced in collaboration with multiple professions, and create a foundation for the development of creative medical research.
Academic conference
Our department actively engages in research activities, including holding academic conferences where faculty members serve as presidents, as well as presenting conferences and papers. We contribute to the development of the rehabilitation field by cultivating basic skills through university education and widely disseminating new knowledge gained to society. Through both education and research, we aim to develop human resources who will contribute to future medical care and welfare.
International exchange / Study abroad
Through joint research with Harvard Medical School, the world's top medical research institution, we are conducting research on muscular dystrophy, for which no treatment has been established, and muscle weakness in the elderly, for which more effective remedies are needed. At the laboratory in Boston, we conduct experiments and discussions every day with researchers from all over the world, including America, Europe, and Asia, aiming to make new discoveries. Faculty members from NCU regularly visit the site and engage in lively discussions about experimental methods and research ideas with researchers from different cultures and specialized fields, while promoting original research that leverages the strengths of both universities. Collaborative research in this international environment not only contributes to the development of new treatments that improve the lives of patients, but also greatly contributes to the development of human resources who will be responsible for future medical research.
Student conference
We provide opportunities for students aiming to become physical therapists/occupational therapists and students from the Faculty of Pharmacy to discuss cases together with the support of rehabilitation department physicians and faculty members from the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Participants will deepen their understanding of the disease and learn how to read test results and how drugs work and use. In addition, in order to support patients' independent living and social participation, students will gain a mutual understanding of the roles played by each specialist and develop the ability to approach things from different perspectives.
These experiences will form the basis for smooth collaboration in future team medical care and provide practical learning to provide optimal medical care.
